Deposit Back is an educational calculator and template tool. It is not legal advice. State law varies, and laws change. The deadlines and statute wording we show were read from each state's official statute page on the date shown next to the source, and they may have changed since. Always check the official page before you act.

The tool counts calendar days from the move-out date you enter. It does not know your lease, local ordinances, special housing rules (for example subsidized housing), what exactly started the clock in your case, or how a particular court counts a weekend or holiday. It does not decide whether a deduction is fair, and it never calculates a penalty; whether a statute's consequences apply depends on facts it can't check.

The letter is a template filled in from your entries. Read it, correct it and decide for yourself whether to send it. The suggested timeline is generic pacing, not a legal deadline. Your state's deadline for filing a claim can be shorter than you expect.

Talk to a local tenant-rights organization or an attorney about your situation. For states we have not verified, the tool says so and points you to your state's official tenant guide.
